I received this from my dad as a Christmas present when it was first published. At that time I had become interested in what was happening in the Soviet Union as I was taking a Soviet Cinema course at university. I read about half of the book and then abandoned it. Political memoirs are not for the faint of heart at the best of times and one from a country with a political system so different from the West can be tough going.
I am pleased to say that I read this all the way through this time. Gorbachev’s Memoirs provide an inside look into the politics of the Soviet Union during Gorbachev’s life and through perestroika until the collapse of the USSR. I think this is an important book to read for anyone that is studying or interested in Soviet history, however at times I did find a bit dry.
